This guide to horse breeds, training, management, equipment, and the latest developments in equestrian sporting events is illustrated with about 1,000 color photos, illustrations, and maps, including action shots of about 150 horse and pony breeds from around the world. The book is divided into 12 historically chronological sections, describing the uses to which horses have been put through the ages and explaining the influence of breeds from around the world. Two-page spreads on individual breeds contain information on origins and characteristics of the breed, along with a large color photo noting distinguishing physical features, plus several other color photos of the breed in action, and a color origin map. There are also pages highlighting famous horse and rider partnerships or significant places in the horse world. A glossary is included. There is no subject index.
