A private practitioner in Königswinter, Germany, Hebgen demonstrates with photographs how osteopaths manipulate internal organs. The rationale for such manipulation is that the organs are attached to each other and to parts of the locomoter system, and are subject to the same physical laws as the rest of the body. Therefore, a disturbance in the movement of an organ can affect other parts of the mechanics of the body and lead to osteopathic dysfunctions. Most of the chapter focus on a particular organ--such as liver, stomach, and the urinary bladder. Other topics include fascal treatment of the organs according to Finet and Williame, circulatory techniques according to Kuchera, and reflex point treatment according to Chapman. Viszeralosteopathie--Grundlagen und Techniken was first published in 2003; Sabine Wilms has translated the 2008 third edition, which was published by Hippokrates Verlag, Stuttgart.
