This reprint is a translation of Martin Heidegger's Zur Bestimmung der Philosophie, first published in 1987. The two lecture courses it contains are the earliest known lectures Heidegger gave after transferring from the theological faculty to the philosophy faculty in 1919 at the University of Freiburg. Appendices include an incomplete transcript of another lecture given during the same time period. Translator Sadler notes that the lectures were not prepared for publication and that he made no attempt to alter the sometimes conversational nature of the original German text.
