This two-volume work condenses the field of clinical psychology for graduate students and professionals in manner intended to make it suitable as both a general reference work or as separate major course texts for clinical psychology with adults, with 33 chapters, and clinical psychology with children and adolescents, with 31 chapters. Both volumes use a parallel structure of six parts covering general issues, theoretical models, research contributions, diagnosis and evaluation, treatment, and special issues. Thus, each includes chapters on historical perspectives, clinical training, professional practice, ethical and legal issues, professional roles, psychodynamic theory, applied behavior analysis, cognitive-behavioral theory, statistical considerations, single-case research, personality, treatment research, diagnostic interviewing, neuropsychological assessment, and behavioral assessment, but the sections on treatment and special issues differ markedly between the two volumes. The volume on adults includes chapters on psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, gestalt therapy, marital therapy, group psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, health psychology, multicultural treatment, brief therapy, depressive disorders and inflammatory processes, successful aging in very old adults, and clinical psychology and politics. Meanwhile, the volume for children includes chapters on play therapy, behavior modification, parent training, cognitive-behavioral treatment, primary care behavioral pediatrics, peer intervention, cultural issues, divorce and custody, child maltreatment, autism spectrum disorders and related developmental disabilities, parental psychopathology and its relation to child psychopathology, problems in infancy, and pyschopharmacology.
