Concrete remains the most common material for bridge construction around the world, and prestressed concrete is frequently the material of choice. Prestressed concrete bridges provide economic, durable and aesthetic solutions in most situations. The second edition has been updated to take account of Eurocodes and the content expanded in areas, such as: the inspection, maintenance and demolition of prestressed concrete bridges; integral bridges; temporary works and construction requirement. The first edition of this title sold very well for us and the a main competitive title – Design of prestressed concrete bridges, published in 2007 so there is a market gap for an up to date title. Prestressed concrete is a method for overcoming concrete's natural weakness in tension. Prestressing can be accomplished in three ways: pre-tensioned concrete, and bonded or unbonded post-tensioned concrete.
