Logistic regression, used for the prediction of the probability of occurrence of an event by fitting data to a logistic curve, has become one of the most used statistical procedures employed by statisticians and researchers for the analysis of binary and proportional response data, according to Hilbe (emeritus, U. of Hawaii) who presents students and researchers with an overview of the full range of logistic models, including binary, proportional, ordered, and categorical response regression models. For each type of logistical model discussed, Hilbe describes the theoretical foundation and explains how it is to be established, interpreted, and evaluated as to its goodness of fit. He also provides an overview of maximum likelihood estimation and iteratively reweighted least squares estimation, methods used in estimating logistic models. A solid background in linear regression (particularly multivariable linear regression) is assumed and experience with basic differential calculus, integral calculus, probability theory, and matrix calculus will aid in understanding the material.
