Produced for the National Research Council's Roundtable on the Demography of Forced Migration by Hill (director, Hopkins Population Center), this monograph reviews evidence concerning the effects of humanitarian crisis on fertility and seeks to identify common patterns that may exist across settings. Collecting data from the Sakaeo refugee camp in Thailand, among Palestinians in the Middle East and elsewhere, Hill finds malnourishment and famine to be the strongest factors on fertility declines over the short- and medium-terms and assesses long-term effects of conflict on fertility to be very limited.
