An eponymous conference held at the U. of Liverpool, UK (July 2009) was an opportunity for participants to engage with around 50 pre-circulated papers for a couple of days. A similar conference was held 10 years prior and was represented in print in the volume titled Xenophon and his World, edited by C.J. Tuplin. Twenty-three papers were selected for presentation in this volume, which is also edited by Tuplin along with Fiona Hobden, both of whom are affiliated with the U. of Liverpool. The extraordinary historian of the ancient world is discussed in terms of such topics as Plutarch's reading, the Renaissance reception of Spartan Constitution, Socrates' trial and death, historical agency and self-awareness in Hellenica and Anabasis, and Xenophon on pride, on slavery, and on leadership.
