The diagnostic tools presented here are designed to be used in programs that mentor new teachers, within the context of a mentoring process that guides the mentor and the new teacher through collaborative conversations at three transformational learning stages: role-focused, practice-focused, and learner-focused stages. The tools and mentoring framework have been tested and used in workshops and programs conducted by the authors at the Teacher Induction Program at Northern Arizona University, and can be used to gather information on how new teachers interact with students, plan for instruction and design lessons, analyze student work, and differentiate instruction. Guidelines explain how to use each tool and examples illustrate the tools in action. The book provides numerous sample forms, templates, plans, checklists, and summary tables of various standards, along with professional growth framework tables for mentors and mentees. It concludes with a 40-page summary of research backing up the mentoring framework described. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
