In 2001, the maritime law department at the University of Oslo contracted Inadomi for six months to write a short article on multinational corporations investing in the power sectors of developing countries. He forget to set the timer, and just kept writing until by 2005 he had a PhD dissertation. He analyzes the legal aspects of a private-public participation model, called an independent power project, including the the extent to which the law formulated in these contracts bring beneficial consequences for development. The fundamental question he seeks to answer is whether the model's beneficial consequences for development can be improved without detrimentally compromising the private sector's willingness to continue to invest. His topics include the legal structure for multifaceted investment protection, passing through the project company's obligations, protection against changes in law and changes in tax, risk bearing superiority and exposure to market risks, the role of political risk coverage, and the interaction between investment protection and development.
