Egyptian clothing generally consisted of squares and lengths of cloth folded and pinned. The names for these articles are hard to determine. Janssen (Egyptology, University of Leiden (emeritus)) has examined archeological finds, wall painting and, most importantly, the ostraca found at Deir el-Medina to give a summary of words used to describe clothing and what they might mean. He examines the definitions others have suggested and gives his opinion as to accuracy before making suggestions of his own. The transliteration for each word is given along with the hieroglyphics used. This is intended for professionals in the field with knowledge of the Egyptian language.
