The effects of poverty on women, including mortality, undermine not only families but societies and entire economies and pose an ethical challenge to both policymakers and the academe. Here Jones, an independent scholar specializing in liberation theological ethics, feminist studies, international health and economics responds to the lack of attention by academicians, particularly theologians, to the state of poverty endured by women. She describes how overlooking the consequences of women's poverty does not make those consequences disappear, and that global economics has had a significant and deleterious impact on the well-being of women, in part due to the failure of those in power to conscious determine and apply the "judge-act" dimension. Using such filters as Harrison's concept of justice and social theory, Jones determines that the failure of liberation theology to pay appropriate attention to the poverty of women compromises its commitment to the oppressed.
