Unlike other volumes in the publisher's Clinical Dysphagia series, this volume results from a collaborative effort and the contributions of 100 or experts. Eighty chapters focus on conditions that could cause disordered swallowing but may be rarely encountered, or may be underrecognized as being associated with dysphagia. Each chapter's contents are divided fairly evenly between discussion of the medical condition and specific discussion of dysphagia in the condition. Among the conditions addressed are laryngospasm, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, postpolio syndrome, tetanus, toxic caustic ingestion, Wallenberg syndrome, West Nile virus, Wilson disease, and Zenker diverticulum, among many others. Editor Jones is a speech-language pathologist affiliated with Duke U.; Rosenbeck is affiliated with the U. of Florida department of communicative disorders.
