Interpreting the odd hint, Julious seems to be a British statistician who teaches somewhere. He explains how to determine the appropriate sample size for clinical trials and pharmaceutical and public medicine. Sample size is a process not an end, he argues, and shows how to design a study so that the sample size can be adjusted if necessary during the course of the trial. He sets out seven key steps in the process, then rings them through the changes for various types of trials and various types of data. Among these are parallel group superiority trials with normal data, bioequivalence trials, precision-based clinical trials with normal data, non-inferiority trials with binary data, clinical trials with ordinal data, and clinical trials with survival data. The worked examples are from real life. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
