Kandola (English, Liverpool John Moores U.) presents a study of the life and writings of British writer, Violet Paget (1856-1935), more famously known by her pen name Vernon Lee. Following a short biographical introduction, the volume discusses Lee's groundbreaking literary works at the end of the Victorian era, which were radically counter to the social status quo as well as her cosmopolitan European identity and the ways in which her pacifist and gender equality positions influenced the social shift from Victorianism to Modernism. A biographical outline and select bibliography are included. Portions of the text were previously published in Womens's Writing vol 12, no 3 (2005).
