Kildahl offers a memoir of his life that describes his emigration from Norway to the US in 1866. He recounts his family's travels to Minnesota, pioneer life, and how they saw the James-Younger bank raid in 1876. Following the floods of the Red River of the North, they moved to the Dakota Territory in 1883 and Kildahl returned to Minnesota to finish his education and become a Lutheran pastor.
