In an event that has become legendary in Greek history, students occupied the Polytechnic University in Athens for three days in 1973 before being crushed by the military. The dictatorship fell the next year. A large part of this work of social and political history is cultural analysis. It looks, for example, at the rebellion's relation to visual culture and how fashion and hairstyle mimicked other protest movements in the west. The index also contains references to a number of influential western musical groups like the Grateful Dead, the Doors and Bob Dylan. In preparing this work, Kornetis interviewed 49 individuals that that were present during the event about their lives up to the present, along with consulting archives in Athens, London, Paris, and Washington, DC. Thirty-two black and white photographs are scattered throughout the work. The volume begins with a list of abbreviations and a table showing the transliteration of Greek into Latin characters.
