Russian-born, New York artist Slobodkina (1908-2002) is best known for the children's books that she authored and illustrated. This is a catalog of an exhibition of her paintings and mixed media artwork held at the Heckscher Museum of Art, Huntington, NY, and other institutions between January 10, 2009 and April 18, 2010. Curator Kraskin (Sidney Mishkin Gallery, Baruch College, City College of New York) and art historians affiliated with the Slobodkina Foundation introduce this survey of her work and life and critical essays on her role in the American abstract art movement. The oversize volume includes an annotated bibliography, a list of Slobodkina's books, and an index of her featured works. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
