This supplementary volume to Brill's Encyclopedia of the Ancient World consists of a listing of Classical and Late Antique Greek and Latin Authors. Each entry gives the name of the work, a brief synopsis, date of composition, earliest known manuscript, later copies, early and modern editions and translations (starting with Gutenberg) along with copious notes on the contents and relative importance of each one. The editors also discuss texts that are thought to be spurious. This is a welcome addition to the encyclopedia but on its own, the dictionary is invaluable to historians in all periods, providing information that saves months of preliminary research on the dissemination of texts, authors available to medieval and early modern readers and even which library to go to in order to consult original manuscripts.
