Landgráfová and Navrátilová continue their long-term project of setting the love songs in the context of their time and place, which began with their 2007 Czech translation of the songs. Among the questions they address here are whether the songs were literary works of fiction that contradicted the social norms of the time, or represent a variant or a different wording of a real contemporary experience, what they reveal about gender differences in a particular Ramesside New Kingdom context, and how they might help clarify other period sources. They discuss the voice of the Golden Goddess, approaching Her, and the New Kingdom of the Golden Goddess. Over half of the volume is devoted to translations and transliterations of the songs themselves, with detailed commentary.
