Now retired, Laster taught for 42 years in Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia, and overseas in Tehran, Iran, and Beirut, Lebanon, working in both K-12 and university settings. Drawing on cognitive science research about learning and memory, storage, retention, and retrieval, she developed a brain- based approach to teaching some 20 years ago, organized around visual patterns or models of the topic and concepts being taught.
