In March 1920, the republican Lord Mayor of Cork, Tomás MacCurtain, was shot dead in his home. Blaming the RIC for his death, IRA members retaliated against two senior RIC officers. The killings resulted in violent anti-Catholic pogroms in Banbridge, Dromore, and Lisburn. Lawlor, a resident of Lisburn, traces the events which led to serious sectarian rioting and the burning of Catholic owned homes and businesses over a period of three months, and details the extent of the destruction and loss of life in these towns. Many b&w historical photos are included. The author served in the Northern Ireland Civil Service for 40 years. The book is distributed in the US by Dufour Editions.
