Leithert (New Saint Andrews College; he's also pastor of Trinity Reformed Church in Moscow, Idaho) is a clear and vigorous writer with a multifaceted approach to his subject. He outlines his aims in his preface. First is biography--a life of Constantine (a long standing "whipping boy"). Second is an alternative to ideas advanced by "Yoder, Hauerwas, and their increasing tribe" concerning what they call Constantiniansm, which they consider "a heretical mindset and set of habits that have distorted Christian faith since (at least) the fourth century)." Another aim is investigation of the model that Constantine provides for Christian political involvement.
