In this volume appropriate for researchers, practitioners and psychology students, Lezenweger (psychology, State U. of New York at Binghamton and Weill Medical College) argues that all people with schizophrenia share a personality organization called schizotypy. Using the format of questions and answers, with discussion of methodological approaches and clinical anecdotes, he first discusses tools in experimental psychopathology then offers a framework for understanding schizophrenia through the study of individuals at risk of developing the disorder. He describes what schizotypic psychopathology is, how to recognize it, and its use for explaining schizophrenia, showing that the disorder begins before the emergence of symptoms and that studying schizotypes provides opportunity for examining risk in nonpsychotic individuals. He also addresses genetic and somatosensory research and central neurocognitive endophenotypes like attentional, executive processing, and eye-tracking dysfunctions.
