This attractive volume describes the achievements of the Nobel Prize winners in the fields of chemistry, physics, and medicine in terms accessible to undergraduates and the lay science enthusiast. The lives and careers of each winner are summarized briefly in the chronological entries, which focus mainly on the description of the scientific work that led to the award of the Nobel Prize. This is an English translation of three French volumes, published between 1997-1998, one on each of the subjects grouped together here. The volume was written by Leroy (a publisher in Thuin, Belgium), Claude Ronneau (inorganic chemistry, Catholic U. of Louvain, Belgium), and Guy Demortier (physics, U. of Louvain-Belgium).
