When the rediscovered 1930s Art Deco jewellery collection created by Jakob Bengel of Idar-Oberstein was introduced to an astonished public in autumn 2002, it caused a sensation.
In recent years the Handels have succeeded in considerably enlarging their collection of Jakob Bengel jewellery. The present publication snows about a hundred beautiful jewellery objects made by Bengel and previously unpublished.
This book documents the jewellery finds in the light of new historical knowledge and also traces the way taken by the Bengel factory building, which is more than a century old, to a modern industrial museum planned to show-case the Idar-Oberstein Jewellery industry.
