This work reinforces cultural proficiency as a framework for ethical decision-making surrounding issues of educational equity. Part I describes a framework for understanding cultural proficiency as moral discourse and action, and introduces fictional Oakland Hills School District, the setting for case analysis throughout the book. Part II presents case studies for critical reflection and group discussion. Cases are designed to reveal participants' assumptions about ethnicity, ability, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation, and raise awareness of the role of those assumptions in shaping participants' beliefs. The book includes reflection activities with space for written answers. Franklin CampbellJones is associate professor of education leadership at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.
