Looby presents students, academics, researchers, and professionals working in a variety of contexts with a comprehensive examination of the influence of censorship on a wide variety of translation projects for Polish texts into English from 1944 through 1989. The author analyzes differences between original texts and their translations, utilizes archival evidence from the People’s Republic of Poland’s Censorship office, and engages with racist, ideological, and political contexts that informed the projects as they were being done. The author has organized the main body of his text in seven chapters devoted to censors, progressives, others, morals, racists, children, and translators. Robert Looby is a faculty member of the Catholic University of Lublin. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
