Lundblad mentions three previous versions--1983, 1991, and 1994--and says that this is a major revision of them. Chapters on peptide separation by HPLC, and amino acid sequence determination have been removed; the one on amino acid analysis has been moved to an appendix. He suggests the material would be especially useful to researchers in proteomics and the biochemistry of aging, but writes for those with training in various disciplines. After an initial chapter on the site-specific chemical modification of proteins, he treats various classes of proteins in turn, among them amino groups, histidine residues, carboxyl groups, methionine, tryptophan, and peptide bonds.
