Someone took meticulous notes of 62 sermons delivered over a two-year period (1679-1680) by Isaac Foster, Ben Woodbridge, John Whiting, Caleb Watson, and Thomas Cheever, in Hartford, Connecticut. These notes constitute the Hartford Sermon Notebook. Mallory provides an introductory essay, a history of the Puritans, and biographies of the ministers. Discussion of his methodology is followed by transcriptions of sermons grouped according to 11 themes, offering scholars a close view of what was being preached, along with analysis.
