Marc, an author, relates the story of eight African American members of the 1969-1970 Syracuse U. football team, who petitioned for racial equality, demanding access to the same academic tutoring white teammates had, better medical care, starting assignments based on merit rather than race, and racial integration of the coaching staff. Their demands were contested by many of the white players on the team and attracted newspaper coverage and protests from around the country. After the players did not receive a response to their demands, they boycotted the spring 1970 practice, and Coach Ben Schwartzwalder dropped them from the team, white players staged a walkout in support of the coaching staff, and police were needed at home games. Included are interviews with each player. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
