This resource for graduate-level nurse educator courses covers practical issues, theory, and emerging trends in the use of technology in the nursing classroom. The book is written by four authors--a nursing educator, an instructional designer, an informaticist, and a simulation expert. After a description of the technology-related strengths and preferences of different generations of students and faculty, six learning theories and five instructional design theories are reviewed. The instructional design process is outlined and guidelines are given for selection of instructional media. Next, practical chapters describe different types of technology-mediated learning environments and tools and look ahead to the use of emerging technologies in the creation of global learning communities. The book concludes with example lessons, activities, and assignments in nine areas. Learning features include key words, objectives, activities, brief cases, and critical thinking questions. Mastrian teaches nursing at Pennsylvania State University-Shenango. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
