Written in plain language to be more accessible to undergraduate students, this text for undergraduates and graduate students focuses on the most widely accepted theories of plant structure and function, emphasizing the mechanisms by which structure affects the total biology of the plant. The art program features b&w diagrams, photographs, and micrographs (both light and electron microscopy), with special emphasis on light microscopy of the types of cells and tissues that an undergraduate student would see in their own plant anatomy labs. The book covers all tissues and organs of seed plants, and uses familiar plants as examples. Chapters are in sections on subcellular anatomy, simple and complex tissues, the primary vegetative body of the plant, the secondary body of the plant, and tissues and organs of sexual reproduction. A glossary is included, and an appendix provides 50 pages of references. This is a reprint of the first edition, published in 1988. Mauseth is affiliated with the University of Texas-Austin.
