US electrical engineer McClaning updates the 1998 guide he wrote with Tom Vito setting out concepts and principles of designing digital radio receivers. It takes account of the fact that pretty much everything these days is digital--even commercial television and radio--and that digital processing power has become so cheap that it is essentially free. For all that, he says, the non-electronic world remains analog, so the capacity for converting back and forth is still necessary. He has revised little of the previous material, but has added chapters on analog-digital converters and an overview of the demodulation of digital signals as it is performed in the digital domain.
