McEwan-Adkins, an educational consultant in literacy and school leadership, presents research-based reading intervention strategies for students in K-6, designed to be used by general education teachers with individual students or with small groups of struggling readers. The interventions are in seven sections: improving instruction, phonemic awareness, word identification skills, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and interventions for teaching students to read a lot. Each section includes a brief research summary, and interventions include a description and a combination of sample lesson plans, think alouds, and mini teaching routines. A problem-solution table of contents, a topical table of contents, and a grade-level table of contents help teachers find the right interventions for specific problems. A companion web site offers reproducibles. The interventions can be used by K-6 classroom teachers, interventionists, speech pathologists, special educators, and ELL teachers.
