This is the first volume of a three-volume reference in which Mead (English, Texas A&M U.) lists and defines all the people, places, and things invented by Jack Vance for his fiction in English. The set contains about 15,600 terms from his science fiction, fantasy, and detective- adventure fiction, minus only the work he wrote as Ellery Queen. Entries are arranged alphabetically. Each includes the term (the single or multi-word thing named), the definition (the nature of the item, based as much as possible upon information clearly existing in the text), and the code (an abbreviation for the full title of the story or novel. The volumes are not sold as a set. However, this is the only volume that contains the introduction, the guide to codes and titles, and the list of cited editions. Annotation c.
