This book summarizes, for the first time, a decade of archaeological excavation and fieldwork on the industrial archaeology of Lancashire – from the early 18th century to the mid-20th century. This work has changed our understanding of the Industrial Revolution in Lancashire, whose origins can now be seen to lie in the post-medieval period and whose impact extended well beyond the mill towns, canals, and railways that dominate the popular view of industrial Lancashire.
