Considering the effects of "global warming alarmism" on education, law, military budgets, trade policies and several other areas, this volume edited by Michaels (environmental studies, CATO Institute) features thirteen articles reflecting the authors' area of expertise. Papers can be divided into two categories: those that argue that climate change doesn't exist and those asserting that the adaptive capacity of humans is underrated, the impact on human health will be minimal, or the possibility it will actually have good effects. Interesting points abound, such as the one by independent scholar Indur Goklany that the use of fossil fuels has enabled less conversion of wilderness to agricultural uses, therefore having a positive effect on biodiversity. Other points seem more doubtful, including the assertion throughout that the economic rewards of perpetuating the "climate myth" are substantial, meanwhile totally ignoring the economic benefits of climate change denial.
