This collection of monographs grew from a roundtable on Gallinazo held in Trujillo, Peru, in August 2005. Editors Millaire (U. of Western Ontario and researcher, American Museum of Natural History), Morlion (archaeologist and researcher), and 21 co-contributors discuss the Gallinazo culture which inhabited a group of large and small mounds and produced distinctive ceramics near the coast of northern Peru from roughly 50 BC to 650 AD. The authors discuss Gallinazo and its position in Andean cultural history, ceramic traditions, and the growth of complex societies, much of it based on previously unpublished information from recent archaeological excavations. The book contains numerous photographs and other illustrations. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
