Filled with exciting projects, this book is a how-to guide for textile artists looking to learn all the methods and techniques they need to begin “painting with threads” using their own home sewing machine. This is destined to become a classic handbook, with chapters covering all the basics, including tools and materials; methods and techniques; using your sewing machine; experimenting with threads, fabrics, and colors; and creating your own designs and presenting your work.

It will inspire enthusiastic beginners with limited textiles skills, as well as engage more experienced textile artists who wish to understand and adopt new techniques. The book is like taking a series of technique-based master classes, with step-by-step photographs to illustrate each stage of the process.

Linda Miller works from the Colour Factory Studios and Gallery in Winchester making machine embroideries using rayon, silks and metallic threads. She is a regular at Crafts Council exhibitions, and her work is also represented in the V&A Museum shop, at Leeds City Art Gallery, and at CAA. Commissions for public collections include: Crafts Council, Southern Arts, New Milton Arts Centre, V&A Museum, Leeds City Council, Brighton and Hove County Council and Chandler Arts Commission in Arizona USA. She has won a number of awards from the Crafts Council, and the Department of Trade and Industry, and well as Southern Arts and the Arts Council. She is a very popular case study with both secondary and tertiary textiles students. Her work can be seen on her website: www.lindamillerembroideries.co.uk.
