Miller (U. of Florida) shows graduate students and advanced undergraduates in courses on theory of mind, cognitive development, and social development, as well as researchers, the developments in theory of mind that occur from age five on, as most books on the topic focus on the preschool period. After a summary of the literature on first-order developments during the preschool period and early forms of theory of mind in toddlerhood and infancy, he considers the second-order false belief task, other measures for understanding higher-level forms of theory of mind, the relation between children's theory of mind abilities and other aspects of their development, and the historical context, including research on the development of social and mental worlds that predated theory of mind and how the two fields complement each other.
