Topologer Milnor collected 16 papers that had been originally published between the middle 1950s and the middle 1970s on knot theory, free actions on spheres, torsion, and three-dimensional manifolds. The topics include the isotopy of links, most knots are wild, infinite cyclic coverings, some curious involutions of spheres, two complexes that are homeomorphic but combinatorially distinct, uses of the fundamental group, and a unique decomposition theorem for three-manifolds. The 1995 edition, put out by Publish or Perish, in Houston Texas, reproduced the original papers with their quaint Cold War type styles, which are carried on here. There is no index.
