This book provides new insights into how advances in new biology and life science technologies, and the emergence of "translational" policies to drive the health bioeconomy, is reshaping the innovation ecosystem for new therapies. It also addresses how the biological turn is disrupting conventional R&D practices, professional boundaries, and our very notions of value in healthcare. A key argument is that a broader definition of value (beyond the economic one) is needed to understand health innovation. Drawing on over 12 years of empirical research on therapeutic innovation and the life sciences, and using exemplar case studies throughout, this book makes important empirical and theoretical contributions to the nature and role of the emerging health bioeconomy, the impact of translational life science on the organization and practice of R&D, and how different notions of value emerge and shape health innovation ecosystems.
