Dreams of what the West could offer brought the earliest settlers into the Yampa Valley. Interest in the vast coal lands was a main driver for investors seeking to develop the region. During those early years, the homesteaders in Craig managed to capture images of the area they had come to claim as their own. They photographed immense stretches of solitary land, quiet scenes of the family living room, and the optimism of the developing business districts.
