Written for readers with only a basic knowledge of point-set topology, this book for graduate students and working mathematicians guides the non-specialist through the basic theory of various generalizations of topology, then presents various generalizations of topologies, each addressing one or several particular shortcomings of topologies. Structures considered include closure spaces, convergence spaces, proximity spaces, quasi-uniform spaces, merotopic spaces, and semi- uniform convergence spaces. While category theory is not the focus of the book, it is a convenient language to study these structures, and is used throughout the book as a tool rather than an object of study.
