The Mimbres lived in what is now southwestern New Mexico, spilling over a bit into Arizona and Mexico, for over a millennium into historical time, but are best known for the black-on-white pottery from their Classical period 1000-1130. Though focusing on that period, the archaeologists here explore the region and the people throughout their occupation. The topics include the connected world of the Mimbres, ritual architecture during the late pithouse period, ritual and worldview, men and women in black and white, painters of the pots, hunting and the importance of deer, and creating a culture of conservation.
