Nelson served for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in North Africa and Europe during WWII. He later became an actor and playwright, in addition to serving with the CIA. His diary entries from January 1943 through February 1945 offer a readable narrative account of a little-known aspect of the war. Introductory material by Kay Shaw Nelson, his wife, gives background on the circumstances surrounding Nelson's decision to join the OSS and his journey by boat to North Africa, and reviews the history of how Nelson's diary pages survived the war and what happened to them later. Her epilogue tells of Nelson's life after the war. A few b&w historical photos are included. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
