Most studies of English in the African country focus on its deviations from the presumed mother tongue, usually British English. Ngefac (U. of Yaounde I) presents a different dimension, focusing principally on the patterns of correlation between some social categories and features of Standard British English. Among the categories are social class, gender, ethnicity, region, and age. The study adds evidence that the English language in a New English context such as Cameroon has taken a significantly different shape from that in an Inner Circle English environment such as Britain.
