Noden, a veteran middle school English teacher, describes an original approach to teaching grammar, called image grammar. The approach involves students studying and imitating the work of various masters, posting their written passages, and sharing insights from reading in small-group discussion and individual conferences. Each chapter consists of lessons to teach students concepts and strategies for further classroom activities. The CD-ROM contains teaching strategies, rubrics, reproducible handouts for in-class activities, images and quotes to project for in-class writing, and web links. This second edition contains new material on grammatical chunks, expanded discussion of the five basic 'brush strokes,' a presentation of the nonfiction model, and a new visual aid called the character wheel to help students write both nonfiction and fiction character sketches.
