Every weekend, in the basements and parking lots of bars across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded just as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Se fossi inglese direi "Palahniuk at his best". L’esito del vostro parere finale su questo, a mio avviso, capolavoro del pulp, dipenderà molto da un fattore in particolare: la visione del film. Premettendo che, la tensione è la stessa, ma la narrazione è molto diversa; se avrete visto prima il film probabilmente sarete condannati a preferire la pellicola alla suonante carta stampata. Tuttavia il libro è talmente originale che lo amerete comunque: unici requisiti necessari sono 1) l’amore per la cultura pop americana 2) comprensione dello humour nero 3) un certo gusto per il grottesco. Palahniuk, bisogna dirlo, non inventa un genere vero e proprio, i giovani e italianissimi"Cannibali" nei primi anni novanta, avevano già scritto di gore e pulp, ma sensa soffermarsi molto sulla psicologia dei personaggi e sulla cultura che li crea. Difatti Fight-Club non è solo la storia di alcuni cinici e reietti individui, ma una accanita critica del capitalismo e dei fondamenti su cui si basa la società dei benpensanti. Palahniuk è un maestro della splatter-malinconia, un fuoriclasse della parola cruda. Un autore da leggere a tutti i costi, a partire da questo piccolo gioiello paradossalmente (dato il successo della pellicola e del libro stesso) filo-marxista.
